Book Review: Blue Blood Series

Vampires, adventure, love. No I’m not talking about Twilight - this is more of a historical vampire series.  The Blue Blood Series revolves around Schuyler Van Alen, a woman trying to fit into a society of vampires (hence the “blue blood”). Soon, her town is being attacked by what she believes to be Silver Bloods, but no one in “The Committee” believes her. The Silver Bloods attack! Schuyler finds she is the only one—except for her mother— who can defeat the Silver Bloods. Throughout the series Schuyler goes through deaths, heart-breaks, and the confidence to regain her family’s name. If I had to rate this out of 5, I would have to give it a 4. Not only does it have vampires in it – which now almost all teenage girls love— but it also included history. Every now-and-then, pages of journals or news articles will come up, dating back to when the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth. And those journals would relate to the latest plot complication in the book. It’s a neat brand of foreshadowing, without giving away too much of what can happen. I enjoyed reading the series because of the main character’s morals as well. Schuyler never lost herself in her surroundings, always wanting to do the right thing. She could very easily spend her endless supply of cash in shopping sprees everyday, but instead preferred to wear baggy, out-dated clothes that made her feel comfortable. She is also true to her friends—it didn’t matter if they were new or old, rich or poor. She is there for them throughout the series, whenever they need her. The characters are another part of the series that I enjoy. They all have different personalities, whose contrasting traits highlight their traits. Oliver is the loyal best friend, Mimi is the selfish spoiled rich girl, and Jack is the popular guy who always wants to do the right thing. They all are different in their own way, but in the end they all want everything to go back to the way it was supposed to be. I would recommend this series to anyone who loves vampires and history. It may not be Twilight, but, like Twilight, it is unique in its own way.
